After early discussions with the University of Michigan, completed two years of high school
in one year and joined the Wolverines for the 2002-03 season as their starting netminder
Posted a 30-10-3 record, along with a 2.33 goals against average and a .911 save percentage
in his freshman season
Led all NCAA Division 1 goalies in games played (43) and minutes (2,457:33), leading
Michigan to a spot in the NCAA Frozen Four.
Named to Inside College Hockey.com’s All-Rookie Team
Named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Midwest Regional

First career shutout was in his first collegiate game,
stopping 29 shots en route to a 3-0 blanking of Niagara
(Oct. 11) at the Xerox College Hockey Showcase to become
the third straight U-M freshman starting goaltender to
notch a shutout in his collegiate debut.

along with a 2.23 goals against average and .917 save percentage
recipient of numerous honors following the 2003-04 season, including:
2003-04 Jofa/AHCA All-America West Second Team selection (the first University of Michigan
All-American since the 2001-02 season), 2003-04 All-CCHA Second Team, a finalist for 2003-04 CCHA
Goaltender of the Year and 2003-04 CCHA All-Academic honorable mention
Named HBC Financial Group/CCHA Player of the Month in January, 2004 after posting a 6-0-0 record,
two shutouts, a 0.83 GAA and a .952 save percentage in six games
Posted a career-best six shutouts to bring his Michigan total to 10
Has posted the second-most wins in school history (56) after two seasons (Turco, 61)
and the third-best winning percentage (.705) after two seasons (Turco, .785; Steve Shields, .782)
Set career-high with 42 saves in the 2004 NCAA Northeast Regional Final against Boston College (March 28)
Has posted a 12-2-1 overall record at Michigan making 30+ saves in a game
Made 30+ saves in nine games in 2003-04 with a 6-2-1 record
Notched his 50th career victory with a 35 save performance against Miami (Ohio) (Feb. 14)
Established a career-best seven-game winning streak from January 9 to February 6
Was undefeated in nine games (8-0-1) from December 12 to February 6
Backstopped the United States to its first-ever gold medal finish at the 2004 IIHF U-20
World Junior Championship in Finland … Started all six games for Team USA, posting a 1.33
goals against average, a .944 save percentage and two shutouts
His GAA and save percentage rank second all-time among U.S. goaltenders at the U-20 WJC
Earned Directorate Award as the top goaltender at the tournament.
